Michelle Dar has been a member of the Beverly Hills Unified School District since she was an elementary student. Michelle has always been passionate about being an educator and was excited to come back to Beverly Hills after attending San Diego State University and majoring in English.
Her career started as an English teacher at Beverly Hills High School 13 years ago. During her tenure as an English teacher, Michelle also held positions as the WASC Coordinator, Executive Board Member of the Every 15 Minutes Committee, and Advisor for the successful Service Learning Class. After 8 years of service in our English department, Michelle became an assistant principal in House C where she oversaw technology, performing arts, the site plan, and safety/security.
Two years later, Michelle joined the Hawthorne family as their principal. This was very exciting for Michelle and the Vikings, as Michelle is an alumna of the school. Michelle was at the forefront of moving her school forward with technology and 1:1 devices.
Since then, she has had a beautiful child with another on the way. Michelle decided to take a break from administration and has formally joined the technology team and Beverly Hills High School as one of the site’s technology coaches.
It is with great excitement that I introduce myself as your Instructional Technology Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) with Beverly Hills Unified School District. Educational Technology is my passion! It has been since I entered the field of education 19 years ago. Once resources are vetted, I find ways to incorporate the digital tools into the educational setting through the following avenues:
- Providing professional development for faculty;
- Assisting colleagues in incorporating the Common Core State Standards, through the integration of the core subjects and 5Cs (learning and innovation skills);
- Promoting 21st century interdisciplinary themes (Global Awareness, Financial, Economic, Business and Entrepreneurial Literacy, Civic Literacy, Health Literacy, Environmental Literacy);
- Creating digital-age learning experiences by incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning;
- Facilitating 21st century readiness for every student; and
- Working with the Director of Technology to plan future changes and initiatives.
