Beverly Hills Unified School District has contracted DLR Group as the Architect of Record for the Hawthorne School Modernization Project.
DLR Group and its consultants have finalized their Field Investigation Report and drawings of the existing conditions, which the Design Team will use during the upcoming design and construction phases of the campus modernization. Concurrently, DLR Group worked collaboratively with the District and its third-party Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Civil Engineers to develop a strategy to modernize the school’s building systems.
Over the last six months, the team has developed a series of site master plan concepts with the District and BHUSD’s educational planning consultant, Dejong-Richter. These concepts address the school’s current educational and technology needs, and allow the flexibility to meet future educational needs. The team is awaiting Board approval of the chosen scheme to proceed into the design phases.
The District’s Board of Education has directed DLR Group to proceed with developing a Historical Assessment Report, which will guide the design team in preserving the significant elements that define the campus’ architectural character. The document has been completed by consultant G. Taylor Louden Historical Architecture & Preservation. The findings and recommendations will be presented to the District’s Board of Education at the July 25th Study Session.
The Campus Modernization is expected to begin in June of 2014 and will be performed in two phases with construction completed for the 2017-2018 school year.
