The 2017-2018 school year is officially underway, as teachers from all five of BHUSD's schools celebrated Opening Day Thursday morning.
"My responsibility is to ensure the district will be focused, well managed, and headed in an exciting, dynamic direction," Superintendent Michael Bregy told the crowd gathered at the Saban Theatre, which graciously provided the venue for this year's event free of charge.
The financial state of the District is one of several challenges Bregy outlined for staff, also addressing concerns over facilities, possible reconfiguration, and the proposed Metro Purple Line Extension under the Beverly Hills High School campus.
Bregy stressed the importance of a common vision and common goals, telling staff he will be looking to them for critical involvement and feedback to tackle tough issues, and to help shape the future of the district.
Teachers enjoyed a delicious breakfast provided by the PTA Council while catching up with friends and colleagues prior to Bregy's remarks. A social media photo area was buzzing with activity, as staff snapped fun photos to highlight the District's new hashtag #BH1 on Facebook and Twitter.
"We are one district," said Bregy, "That's what #BH1 is all about. We are all in this together."
