Adopt-A-Whale Story

The Incredible Whale Journey
By Roxi A.

Once upon a time there was a girl named Roxi Thornberry. As odd as it seems, she could talk to animals. She chose a very special kind of animal, the Humpback Whale. She had a lot of questions for it so one day she decided to go out and find one and ask it all her questions. She sat in a nice quiet spot and called to a whale. As soon as she could believe her eyes, a whale came singing and breaching all around. Her wonderful journey was just about to begin. Roxi wanted to learn about their whole body and how it works. She asked the whale known as Puka, "What's the difference between each whale's fluke?" Before Roxi could blink, Puka had called all of her friends. Roxi was confused because all the whales were swimming under water. Suddenly they all showed their flukes and Roxi knew the answer right away. Each fluke was different and unique. Even though some looked the same, there was still a little marking that made them different. In amazement, Roxi went on to asking her next question which was, "What does Plankton taste like and does it fill your stomach?" Roxi being anxious, flooded Puka with questions such as, "Does it hurt to breach?" and "Is it easy to have to think about breathing?" Also, she asked questions such as, "What is the point of Spyhopping?" and "Is it hard migrating with all your weight on you?" But Roxi was not finished yet. She still had to ask the questions: "Have you ever been cold and do Baleen whales fight with Toothed whales?" As Roxi slowed down a bit, she started asking the whale about migration. "Is it hard?" she asked. At that time, Roxi had found most of her answers but the whale being so overwhelmed with all the questions said, "Speaking of migration, my migration starts tomorrow and I need to get enough rest. I've pretty much used up all my energy. Roxi, sad to leave, left and was very happy to have found so many answers. As she sailed back, she waved goodbye and said, "Maybe we do that again sometime!" The whale swam away joyfully. Roxi Thornberry had experienced an incredible journey and that was by far the best day of her life!
