Hawthorne Middle School Retains California "Schools to Watch" Designation

The Beverly Hills Unified School District is pleased to announce that Hawthorne School is among 24 previously chosen California middle schools to retain its "Schools to Watch” designation for the 2017-2018 school year.

"We are thrilled that Hawthorne has been re-designated as a California "School to Watch”. This honor validates the dedicated professionals who work tirelessly for the benefit of our students,” said Hawthorne Interim Principal Richard Waters, "We are proud of our staff, students, parents, and community who all work together to produce an incredible educational experience.”

The Schools to Watch program is sponsored by the California Department of Education, California League of Middle Schools, and the California Middle Grades Alliance. To earn this designation, schools must complete an extensive application that is reviewed by middle grades experts. In order to retain the designation, each school is re-evaluated every three years.

"Congratulations to these schools for doing excellent work to help students believe in themselves, set high goals, and dream big," said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, "These schools are outstanding examples of how educational innovations can keep students engaged and learning throughout a transitional time in their lives."
