Safety and Security

At Beverly Hills Unified School District, safety is built into every system, every protocol, and every campus. The Safety and Security Department oversees comprehensive measures, from physical infrastructure to emergency preparedness, coordinated through our centralized Command Center. Our focus is clear: maintain secure, responsive environments where students and staff can do their best work, every day.

Please keep your child's information updated

The safety of students in an emergency is our priority. Please update family emergency information at your child's school including home address, telephone number, where to contact parent(s)/guardian(s) during the school day, and current medications. If you have questions about your school's disaster preparedness plan, please call your school office.

School is a safe place

If an earthquake or other emergency occurs, school is one of the safest places where students can be. Each school has a disaster preparedness plan. Teachers, administrators and other staff members are trained to supervise and care for students. School buildings are usually safer than homes because they are constructed to meet strict public safety standards

Students who leave school

If it is necessary for students to leave school due to an emergency, school staff will follow a developed plan to make sure that each child is released at a specified location on campus to a parent(s) or guardian(s), relative or other person designated by the parent.

Students who remain at school

If a parent/ guardian or designee cannot pick up children for an extended period of time, students will remain under supervision until the parent/guardian arrives at school. However, children should be picked up as soon as possible. If necessary, students may be moved to another school or an off-campus site for greater safety.

Communication from the District to Home

BHUSD has subscribed to a service known as Aeries Communication. Administrators are using this high-speed service to contact all parents via telephone within a matter of moments in case of emergencies. Please ensure that your home telephone number remains current with the office staff at your child's school.

Using the telephone

In the event of an earthquake or other major emergency, telephones may not be operating or lines may be too busy to call the schools. In this case, do not use the telephone. Go to the school and pick up your child(ren) as soon as possible.

Radio and Television

News stations KFWB (AM 980) and KNX (AM-1070) may include Beverly Hills news reports, along with commercial television stations such as channels 2,4,5,7,9,11,13 and 52 (Spanish language). The Cable News Network (CNN) will also cover local and widespread emergencies. The City Emergency Station is a good resource:  AM 1500.

Local Cable Television

Emergency information and updates will appear as soon as possible on the Time-Warner Cable System on Cable Channel 6 (Beverly Hills Education Channel) and on the City of Beverly Hills Cable Channel 10.

District Website

Emergency information and updates, when possible, will be posted on the school district's website: http://bhusd.org

Newspapers

Emergency information will appear in newspapers serving the district, including Beverly Hills Courier, Los Angeles Times, and The Daily News. Efforts will be made to place information in foreign language newspapers that publish in Farsi, Hebrew and Spanish.
