Beverly Hills High School Academic Decathlon Team Advances to State for Fifth Consecutive Year

Beverly Hills, CA (February 18, 2025) – Beverly Hills High School’s Academic Decathlon team has once again secured a spot at the California State Competition, marking its fifth consecutive year at this prestigious event. Competing against 55 schools in the LACOE (Los Angeles County Office of Education) Regional Competition, the team placed 5th overall, demonstrating academic excellence across economics, math, science, art, music, literature, and social science. In addition to rigorous subject testing, decathletes competed in prepared and impromptu speeches, essay writing, and interviews, further showcasing their depth of knowledge and critical thinking skills. Several team members earned individual honors for their outstanding performances:

•Jacob Treiman – Gold Medal in Speech (perfect score!), Gold Medal in Interview (perfect score!), Silver Medal in Economics, Silver Medal in Science, Bronze Medal in Essay

•Sarah Zhang – Gold Medal in Speech, Silver Medal in Interview, Silver Medal in Mathematics, Bronze Medal in Essay

•Karina Kruger – Silver Medal in Essay, Silver Medal in Interview, Silver Medal in Speech, Bronze Medal in Art

•Nicholas Lau – Silver Medal in Essay •Daesung (Peter) Kang – Silver Medal in Interview

•Lea Levy – Silver Medal in Essay, Silver Medal in Speech, Bronze Medal in Interview, Bronze Medal in Literature

•Elisha Rhie – Bronze Medal in Essay, Bronze Medal in Speech

•Lindsay Jada Moreno – Bronze Medal in Speech

The official team, including Daniyel Borodin, will advance to State Essay Testing at BHHS on March 5, before traveling to Santa Clara from March 20-23 to compete in the State Finals, where they will participate in objective tests, speeches, interviews, and the highly anticipated Super Quiz. Junior Team Recognitions: The Junior Team also delivered an outstanding performance, earning the following distinctions:

•Hannah Davis – Gold Certificate in Speech •Grace Chang – Silver Certificate in Speech

•Jion Jung – Silver Certificate in Speech

•Nima Farnad – Bronze Certificate in Speech

Junior team members will compete next in the Heptathlon on March 8 at BHHS. Notably, every decathlete improved their scores in at least one subject from the scrimmage, a testament to their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to academic excellence.

These students have put in extraordinary effort, demonstrating resilience, intellect, and passion for learning, Their dedication to pushing boundaries and striving for excellence is the embodiment of what it means to make each day well lived, our school’s foundational motto. We could not be more proud of their achievements and can’t wait to see them shine at the state level.
