Beverly Hills Reads: A Citywide Celebration of Literacy and Community Connection
Beverly Hills, CA (August 24, 2025) – On August 24, 2025, students, families, educators, and community members filled the El Rodeo Elementary Auditorium for Beverly Hills Reads, a citywide celebration of literacy hosted in collaboration with the Beverly Hills Unified School District (BHUSD), the City of Beverly Hills, and the Human Relations Commission.
The event spotlighted Isola by Allegra Goodman, this year’s summer reading selection for Beverly Hills High School English students. Students read the novel over the break and returned not just prepared for class but ready to engage in meaningful dialogue with the author herself. They asked insightful questions, explored the writing process, and reflected on the book’s themes through a lens that connected both learning and community.
“This event represents the best of what we strive for in BHUSD. Connecting rigorous academic expectations with real-world relevance and community engagement is key,” said Dr. Alex Cherniss, Superintendent of BHUSD. “When students see their learning valued beyond the classroom, it deepens their thinking and inspires their voices to be heard.”
Open to all ages, the event invited the entire Beverly Hills community into a shared literary experience. Readers of all generations came together through curiosity, conversation, and connection.
“The Beverly Hills Reads is a community-wide event that builds community and meaningful connection through literature and reminds us that Beverly Hills is a wonderful place to live,” said City Council Member and former BHUSD Board Member Mary Wells.
BHUSD extends its sincere gratitude to Beverly Hills Community Services, the Beverly Hills Public Library, Friends of the Library, Beverly Hills Education Foundation, and The Beverly Hilton for their generous support in bringing this event to life.
