Beverly Hills, CA (May 31, 2025) – The Beverly Hills Unified School District successfully executed the most secure event in city history during the 2025 Beverly Hills High School Commencement. With more than 2,400 students, families, and guests in attendance, BHUSD’s unwavering commitment to safety was carried out with precision and professionalism. Security operations were led by the BHUSD Command Center, the district’s dedicated security operations center. It is staffed by trained personnel who monitor over 1,000 live camera feeds across all school sites, working closely with law enforcement to respond to any safety concerns within seconds. Key security highlights included:
● Weapons Detection: All attendees entered through the Evolve weapons detection system. This cutting-edge technology allowed for fast, contactless screening and successfully identified four individuals carrying prohibited items, which were safely confiscated on site.
● AI-Enhanced Monitoring: Artificial intelligence tools actively scanned for potential threats, including facial recognition, behavioral analysis, weapons detection, and crowd monitoring, providing instant alerts to Command Center operators.
● Aerial Surveillance: A public safety drone provided live video from above, offering full aerial coverage of the venue during the event.
● High-Vantage Video Coverage: Newly installed security cameras on the adjacent 10000 Building offered a comprehensive field-wide view, enhancing visibility across the entire campus.
● Unified Coordination with Law Enforcement: BHUSD maintained real-time coordination with the Beverly Hills Police Department throughout the event, ensuring immediate, synchronized response capabilities.
● And Other Confidential Security Measures.
“This level of security was only possible because of expert preparation, strong partnerships, and full command of our tools and systems,” said Sean O’Connor, BHUSD Command Center Manager. “What we accomplished today shows exactly how school safety should operate: calm, controlled, and proactive.” Security success was made possible through the leadership of the Command Center team, including Ryan Damavandi, and through collaboration with the Beverly Hills Police Department, district campus security staff, and NASTEC security personnel. Together, these teams delivered on BHUSD’s safety motto: empowering safety through partnerships. “This was a flawless execution of school safety at the highest level,” said BHUSD Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss. “BHUSD has set the standard, not just locally, but nationally. We are leading the way.” The BHUSD Command Center continues to raise the bar for public school safety using innovation, expertise, and collaboration as the foundation for every operation.
