Beverly Hills, CA (April 3, 2026) – In a continued commitment to Educational Excellence, the Beverly Hills Unified School District (BHUSD) Board of Education approved Resolution No. 2025-2026-14, “Using Technology with Intention: Establishing Guidelines for Student Screen Time,” during its Regular Board of Education Meeting on March 24, 2026.
The resolution passed in a 3-2 vote, with Board President Judy Manouchehri, Vice President Sigalie Sabag, and Board Member Russell Stuart voting in favor.
This important step positions BHUSD as a proactive leader in balancing innovation with student wellness, ensuring that technology enhances learning while safeguarding the academic, social, and emotional well-being of all students.
The resolution directs the District to develop a comprehensive Screen Time Policy for implementation in the 2026–2027 school year. This policy will establish research-based guidelines for appropriate technology use across grade levels, with a particular emphasis on limiting screen time for younger learners while maintaining robust, future-ready digital opportunities for older students.
“This is an exciting moment for our district, we are taking a thoughtful, forward-looking step to ensure technology supports our students in the right way, with balance, intention, and purpose,” said Board President Judy Manouchehri. “It provides for both a limitation of screen time in the younger years, while maintaining BHUSD’s commitment to innovation, technical education and career-readiness for our older students.”
The forthcoming policy will include:
Clear recommendations and limits for screen time by grade level
Reduced reliance on devices in early education through second grade
Increased use of traditional learning methods, including paper and pen
Enhanced transparency for families through screen time tracking and reporting
Annual parent consent for digital tools and applications
Ongoing education around digital citizenship, safety, and responsible technology use
Grounded in research and best practices, the resolution acknowledges both the critical role of technology in modern education and the documented risks of excessive screen exposure, including impacts on attention, mental health, and academic performance.
With this action, BHUSD continues to lead with intention, redefining what it means to integrate technology in a way that is both innovative and responsible. This work sets the stage for a future where students are not only digitally proficient, but thoughtfully engaged, balanced, and fully supported to thrive in and beyond the classroom.
BHUSD Board of Education approved a resolution establishing intentional technology use and student screen time guidelines, advancing a balanced approach that supports innovation while prioritizing student well-being and academic success.
