Beverly Hills, CA (June 24, 2026) – The Beverly Hills Unified School District (BHUSD) presented results from its 2025–26 Strategic Plan and Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) during the June 23rd Board of Education meeting, revealing the strongest academic outcomes the district has recorded in years. Across the entire district, California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) assessment scores increased by 4% in English Language Arts, 5% in Mathematics, and 9% in Science, and BHUSD no longer has metrics rated below “Meets Standard” on the California Dashboard, a milestone the district has not reached since the dashboard was first introduced in 2017.

These results reflect the current Board of Education’s strategic investments in curriculum, instruction, and student support, which have delivered meaningful gains across the district. Over the past two school years combined, ELA scores have grown by 9 points and math scores by 10 points across the district. The 9% single-year leap in science is particularly striking, driven by the Board’s decision to restore science to the core elementary school day, a new TK–8 science curriculum adoption, and a district-wide elementary science fair that drew record student participation. Behind every number is a community’s commitment: teachers who raised their instruction, families who kept students engaged, and staff at every level who showed up for students each day.

The Class of 2026 is also heading to college at a rate BHUSD has never seen. Applications to four-year colleges and universities increased by 37% compared to the Class of 2025. This is a direct result of the Board of Education’s decision to dramatically expand the district’s college counseling program, which reduced the student-to-counselor ratio and ensured every student received individualized guidance throughout the application process. The outcomes speak to the culture that investment has built: 15 students were accepted to USC, seven more than the previous year, three additional students are enrolled at UCLA compared to last year, with gains also recorded at UC Santa Barbara and UC Santa Cruz. The share of students accepted to a four-year institution rose by 6% year over year, and the number of graduating seniors earning the California Seal of Biliteracy, recognizing students for biliteracy in Spanish, French, or Hebrew,  nearly doubled from 37 students to 72.

High-impact tutoring, developed in partnership with Stanford University through a dedicated grant, moved students at Horace Mann and El Rodeo Elementary Schools out of below-grade-level status and meaningfully shifted district-wide results. SAT participation increased by 8%, and the percentage of students scoring a 3 or higher on Advanced Placement exams rose from 84% to 88%. BHUSD also met its 95% attendance rate district-wide while reducing suspension rates, reflecting a school culture that holds high expectations for students and equally high expectations for the systems designed to support them.

“These results show what happens when a district works together to put kids first,” said BHUSD Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss. “The Board invested in our classrooms, tutoring, curriculum, and college counseling, and our teachers, staff, families, and students turned those investments into real results. More students are achieving at higher levels, and more students are prepared for what comes next,” said BHUSD Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss.

“The record of achievement at BHUSD is here to stay,” said Board of Education President Judy Manouchehri. “Our students’ scores increased by 4% in English, 5% in mathematics, and 9% in science, while four-year college applications increased by 37%. These results affirm the vision of the Board and the extraordinary work taking place in every classroom, office, and home across our District. Our students, educators, staff, and families have given this work everything they have, and the entire Beverly Hills community should be exceptionally proud,”  said BHUSD Board of Education President Judith Manouchehri.

BHUSD remains committed to building on this progress, with the same instructional goals carrying into the 2026–27 school year alongside continued investments in counseling, curriculum, and the programs that have proven to move students forward.
