Beverly Hills, CA (February 17, 2025) – Beverly Vista Middle School proudly continued its recognition of Black History Month with a special presentation by Dr. Jill Humphries on February 12, 2025. Dr. Humphries led a powerful discussion on the Double Victory campaign, highlighting the vital contributions of Black American soldiers during World War II and their fight for freedom.
The Double Victory campaign, launched by the Pittsburgh Courier in 1942, was a movement advocating for Black soldiers who served their country while also facing discrimination at home. Dr. Humphries’ insights provided students with a deeper understanding of this pivotal chapter in American history and its lasting impact on civil rights.
"At BHUSD, we are committed to providing students with an education that fosters a deeper understanding of history, equity, and resilience," said Dr. Michael Bregy, BHUSD Superintendent. "Dr. Humphries' presentation exemplifies our dedication to Educational Excellence by bringing history to life and encouraging critical conversations that shape informed, engaged students."
"It was an honor to host Dr. Humphries and provide our students with the opportunity to engage with such an important part of history," said Mr. Rich Waters, Principal of Beverly Vista Middle School. "Her presentation not only deepened their historical understanding but also encouraged reflection."
