Beverly Hills, CA (January 2, 2026) – Beverly Hills Unified School District (BHUSD) proudly announces that Beverly Vista Middle School student Ella Lee has been selected as one of just 36 student artists across Southern California to be featured in the Metropolitan Water District’s 2026 Being Waterwise Student Art Program.

The Being Waterwise program invites students in grades K–12 to create original artwork that promotes the importance of using water wisely. The annual contest receives hundreds of submissions across MWD’s six-county service area, and selected artwork is featured in a professionally printed calendar distributed widely throughout the region.

Ella Lee is an eighth-grade student at Beverly Vista Middle School. She has participated in band for all three years of middle school and has pursued electives in art, animation, and photography. Her winning artwork will be featured in the calendar in February.

The City of Beverly Hills actively supports the Being Waterwise initiative as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability and community education. Through its Public Works Department and citywide outreach, the City helps foster awareness about water conservation among local youth. Ella’s participation and recognition are a reflection of this broader commitment, which connects classroom learning with real-world sustainability efforts.

“We are proud of all our students who engage in meaningful challenges like this one,” said BHUSD Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss. “Ella’s prestigious recognition by the Metropolitan Water District showcases her talent and commitment, and we are honored to have her represent the City of Beverly Hills and BHUSD on a regional level.”
